Our Story
Brecka and Sam, met in 2020 at a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Center where we both worked on the therapy team. Together we wanted to create something to help others in a meaningful, accessible, and inclusive way, which led us to creating Healing House Therapy and Wellness.
Together we have a combined experience of nearly 20 years of providing therapy and close to 27 serving in the mental health field. Additionally what sets us apart is our diverse background working in a variety of settings including: DCFS, private practice, community mental health, hospitals and non-profits. We both have extensive training backgrounds and experience working specifically with crisis and trauma.
We have seen the benefits of mental health services throughout the years. Our hope is to grow a community focused on wellness and whole mind and body healing. We wholeheartedly believe that mental health support should be available and relevant to everyone, regardless of background, identity, or experiences.
Our Brand
We designed our brand with a lot of intention, thought, and purpose. We wanted to design something that encompassed the feeling and meaning of “coming home” to oneself. Or in other words, experiencing personalized individual healing and growth. True growth and forward movement often begins with an inward journey of healing. Just as a flower’s roots must be nurtured to flourish, our internal self requires care and attention to grow. Ultimately, as we shed layers, we make room for growth, a growth that isn't just about moving forward, but about blossoming into our true resilient selves.
Our mission is rooted in the essence of healing and cultivating wellness from within. Blossoming flowers is a metaphor for the gentle yet powerful process of nurturing oneself. Our brand invites you to embrace the beauty of growth, self-care, play, rest, and overall wellness. Embrace the journey within and let us support you on your path to holistic healing. Imagine mental health as the house of well-being. Just as a well-maintained house stands strong against external pressures, prioritizing mental health fortifies the structure of resilience, offering a stable refuge amid life's challenges. We invite you to create a space that reflects and nurtures your true self. We understand that you can't always change your environment or other people, but here, you can come home to yourself. Our center is your sanctuary—a therapeutic retreat that mirrors the familiarity and comfort of home, reminding you that amidst external chaos, your inner sanctuary remains unaltered and steadfast. At Healing House Therapy & Wellness, healing is not just a process; it's a heartfelt return to your most authentic self.
Our Flowers
Peonies are often associated with various meanings, including growth and personal transformation, self-love, self-care, and self-compassion. While their large, lush blooms can be interpreted as a symbol of emotional well-being, growth, and renewal, the slow but steady growth of peonies from buds to fully bloomed flowers can be likened to the gradual process of healing and recovery. Overall, peonies hold a positive and hopeful significance in mental health symbolism, emphasizing the potential for inner strength and flourishing despite challenges.
The marigold flower, with its vibrant hues of gold and orange, is often associated with positive attributes such as warmth, inner light, abundance, and joy. Marigolds are associated with the sun, bringing with them healing energy, light, and vitality. The bright colors make them stand out. They represent the inner sun of every person. Additionally, marigolds are frequently linked to festivities and celebrations, due to their cheerful presence. Marigolds are believed to possess protective qualities, warding off negativity and bringing good fortune. Marigolds are often associated with honoring endings and grieving. The flower's resilience and ability to thrive in diverse environments also contribute to its symbolism of endurance, strength, and inner power.
Lavender is often associated with settings of healing and tranquility due to its calming and soothing properties. In the context of mental well-being, lavender is considered a symbol of grace, serenity, healing, and relaxation. Lavender is frequently used in aromatherapy to alleviate stress, and anxiety, and promote rest. Its calming effects are thought to aid in reducing emotional tension and promoting a sense of balance and emotional stability. As a result, lavender is often seen as a representation of mental calmness, inner peace, and overall well-being. Lastly, It is known to represent the third eye chakra, which represents seeing things as they are.
“Just like the lotus we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of darkness, and radiate into the world” The lotus symbolizes profound meanings that resonate with the essence of therapy and personal growth. Emerging from murky muddy waters, the lotus represents resilience and the potential for transformation, as it blooms into a stunning flower despite its humble beginnings. This process mirrors the journey of individuals navigating through challenges. The lotus is associated with enlightenment, rebirth, hope, and balance. We hope this symbol inspires others to rise above adversity, embrace self-discovery, and blossom into their fullest potential. Just as the lotus unfolds its petals, therapy facilitates the unfolding of one's true self, fostering healing and inner harmony.
We love a good metaphor! Picture a house with a charming white picket fence-a symbol of the importance of boundaries. Consider your relationship with yourself as the foundation of a sturdy house—strengthening it ensures a stable structure for personal growth, resilience, and the ability to weather life's storms. In our work together we will focus on enhancing your home with multiple places to play, nourish yourself, and to rest. Imagine you have a garden where you can weed out what you are ready to be done with and plant seeds for future hopes and dreams. This embodies the core vision of Healing House Therapy & Wellness.
